Golden County Hall

Golden County Hall is a hand-crafted ceramic tile piece depicting London’s iconic County Hall, framed by the River Thames and the city’s ever-changing sky. Each tile was individually cut, carved in relief, hand painted and finished with gold lustre. Created over six months and fired in the County Hall kilns, the work captures the building’s enduring presence while reflecting the movement of time through shifting skies and flowing water.

I am currently developing a large ceramic sculpture for County Hall Arts, reimagining the Virgin Mary as a universal symbol of motherhood. Standing three meters tall, the work combines classical European influences, particularly the Italian Renaissance, with Eastern-inspired decorative glazing. Traditional red and blue tones highlight her divine and human dimensions, while the unglazed stoneware of her skin emphasizes her humanity and connection to everyday women. The sculpture will be hand built in three interlocking sections with a supportive internal framework.
