About

Yasemin Gava is an Italian-Turkish multidisciplinary artist based in London. With a background in painting and various forms of applied arts, she brings a holistic and intuitive approach to her practice. Over the years, her creative path has moved fluidly across different mediums, each experience deepening her understanding of material, form, and expression.

Born in Italy, she received classical training in fine art before moving to London in 2014. Over the years, she has collaborated with diverse clients, including museums and theatre companies, on projects ranging from illustration and graphic design to prop making and educational materials.

Yasemin's work is characterised by a strong focus on texture, colour, and the depiction of both real and imaginary environments. She is deeply committed to environmental and humanitarian issues, often incorporating these themes into her artwork. Since 2020, she has been a member of Art for Refugees ,  an online collective that raises funds for charities supporting refugees and those seeking asylum.

In 2022, she participated in Picture Hook’s Buddy Scheme working with illustrator Jane Ray to enhance her skills as a picture book illustrator. That same year, she was invited by County Hall Arts to undertake a residency where she created a collection of 25 landscape paintings of Kyoto, culminating in an exhibition at the County Hall building in central London. This experience was featured in the documentary series ‘A Painter in Kyoto,’ which screened in London and Smederevo, Serbia.

In 2023, Yasemin was selected for an artist residency with The Royal Drawing School at Dumfries House, where she also conducted children’s workshops for the Boswell Book Festival alongside writer Vivian French MBE.

Currently, she is a resident artist at County Hall, where is working primarily with clay and recently completed a three metre ceramic installation of the building.
