Costume design for The Golden Hinde museum
I designed historically inspired costumes for The Golden Hinde Museum, drawing on in-depth research into Tudor mariner clothing. My work involved studying authentic 16th-century garments, materials, and construction methods to ensure accuracy and bring the world of Tudor seafarers to life. Collaborating closely with a professional costume maker, I developed detailed concepts that were translated into fully realised, museum-ready pieces. The final costumes blend historical authenticity with practical durability, helping visitors immerse themselves in the daily life of sailors aboard the iconic Golden Hinde.
My research process included studying period paintings, examining both primary and secondary written sources, and consulting museum archives, such as those of the Mary Rose, to understand authentic 16th-century materials, construction methods and daily wear.
